David Wright
Executive Director, Sustainable Datacentres
David is Executive Director of Sustainable Datacenters and leads SDCL’s Datacenter Site Development and Energy Solutions business. David joined SDCL in February 2024 with over 25 years ofexperience in utility scale Energy Infrastructure Development and Implementation, Energy Strategy and Policy Development, and Datacenter Site Selection and Energization.
Prior to joining SDCL, David held leadership roles at Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, Cisco Systems, and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). David began his career at PG&E as a Finance and Rate analyst before his promotion to Corporate Account Manager- High Tech Sector, where he earned energy industry recognition for leading large scale Energy Efficiency and Power Reliability improvement projects in Silicon Valley. David later joined Computer Network giant Cisco Systems as their Global Energy Manager leading Energy Strategy, Energy Efficiency Projects, and Utility Interconnection globally. At AWS, David held the role Principal, Energy Strategy and Infrastructure and Head of Energy Strategy and Infrastructure for AWS’ US Government dedicated cloud program, leading energy strategy and infrastructure development resulting in the energization of Datacenters sites across North America, Australia, the Greater Republic of China, and South America.
David holds a Bachelor degree in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and a MBA in Marketing and Finance from St. Mary’s College of California. He is a former Certified Energy Manager, member of the Association of Energy Engineers, and recipient of Energy User New’s Energy Manager of the Year and Best Energy Efficiency Project awards. David is a military veteran, distinguished graduate of the Fort Rucker Aviation Technical school, and a recipient of the National Guard Meritorious Service Medal for distinguished service.
