The London EDGE Fund is a co-investment fund between the GLA and SDCL.
The London Edge Fund represents a novel collaboration between the public and private sector to decarbonise London.
In November 2023, London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan announced a £50 million contribution from the Greater London Authority (“GLA”) to The London EDGE Fund that was established in partnership with Sustainable Development Capital LLP which has also contributed £50 million.
The London EDGE Fund will provide a comprehensive ‘energy-as-a-service’ solution by combining the expertise and finance needed to support the development, construction and operation of energy efficient and decentralised energy projects.
What type of projects are eligible?
London EDGE is open to both private and public sector energy projects.
Who can apply?
- Customer in London facing challenges around reliability, resilience, sustainability, or cost. Typically large energy users like Hospitals, Hotels, Datacenters, Education etc.
What type of technology will the London Edge Fund deploy?
- Energy efficiency measures, for example but not limited to: LED lighting, BMS Systems, and HVAC system.
- Low carbon transportation for example, EV charging and enabling infrastructure.
- Decentralised on-site generation, for example but not limited to CHP (with green gas), Heat Pumps, Solar PV, BESS, WTG or a combination of all to from a behind the meter microgrid.
All proven technologies with TRL 9 stage.
Stage of projects
- Late-Stage Development (12 months out of construction) or Construction Projects.
Project delivery
- The fund will work with the customer to determine the most appropriate delivery model. Likely delivered under an EaaS model.
Timeline
- Capital should be deployed by H2 2026.
What are the terms?
- The Fund will capitalise a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to deliver the project. Consideration will be given to public ownership and public control when required
Additional eligibility criteria
- The minimum investment size for projects is £10 million.
- Projects are located in London (within the M25) and selectively in other locations in the UK.
- Projects that have completed a viability or pre-feasibility study and can start construction in the year, or Projects that are in the Late-Stage development and/or construction phase.
- Projects have most of their cashflows contracted with end customers on-site.
- Counterparties are Investment Grade (IG), equivalent or close to IG.
- Terms of agreements: 7-15 years.
- Project will result in reduction of carbon emissions.
